Beginning

1883 three Ardenner stallions and mares were bought to establish a not so heavy draught horse. They used local working horses to mix with. Draught horse breeding was intensified in the 20ies becaus the decrease of breeding oxes needed a heavy and calm working horse. Because of the fact that Hungarian people don't eat horse meat and the big agricultural machines became more and more, they are now bred for the export meat.

Since 1854 it's recognized as an own breed.
